Small actions, big impact – Great Mental Health Day

Posted in:

Friday 31 January’s Great Mental Health Day aims to get Lambeth sharing and exploring about small acts of kindness that make a more supportive, caring, and compassionate community.

The theme of this year’s Great Mental Health Day is ‘small actions for others’ –  a reminder that we can all do something to spread hope and kindness. It’s also a day to talk about mental health, highlight help and support available locally, and most of all take the stigma out of both asking for help and asking if someone needs help.

In Lambeth we’re sharing stories and experiences and exploring ways to support individual and community wellbeing.

Why Great Mental Health Day?

Great Mental Health Day:

  • Raises the profile of the mental health services and the great work community and grassroots organisations do.
  • Gives people a chance to celebrate and learn from organisations who are devoting energy and compassion to others
  • Destigmatises asking for help, encouraging Londoners to access support.
  • Shares local and regional wellbeing activities

Cllrs Jacqui Dyer, C0-Chair for the Lambeth Together Health and Care Partnership Board, and Lambeth Council’s Cabinet Member for Healthier Communities, said: “Great Mental Health Day promotes the support services, charities and professionals who make a difference to mental health and wellbeing all year round. It’s our opportunity to celebrate them and the impact they make in our community.”

Why is mental health so important to Lambeth Together?

Mental health is the focus of our Living Well Network Alliance – a partnership between the NHS, Council and voluntary sector, supporting people with mental illness or distress to access healthcare, support, housing and more.

Mental health is also a top priority for our Staying Healthy Programme. A programme of work led by the Council’s Public Health Team, in collaboration with partners, supporting more people in Lambeth to live healthier, happier lives for longer.
