Make sure children are protected from flu at extra vaccination clinics
Flu is caused by the influenza virus. It can be a very unpleasant illness for children. It can also lead to serious problems, such as bronchitis and pneumonia.
Children can catch and spread flu easily. Vaccinating them also protects others who are vulnerable to flu, such as babies and older people. The children’s flu vaccine can also help protect against becoming ill from Strep A infections.
At local community centres in Lambeth in February, the school – age immunisation service is offering extra vaccination clinics for children who missed their in-school jabs.
Cllr Timothy Windle, Lambeth Council’s Cabinet Member for Healthier Communities (job-share), and Lambeth Together Board member, said:
“Flu isn’t just a bad cold – it can be much more serious, especially for those most at risk. The flu jab is a simple and effective way to protect yourself and others. For children, the nasal spray vaccine is quick, painless, and helps prevent flu and complications like bronchitis and pneumonia. By vaccinating your child, you’re also helping to protect vulnerable friends and family. And remember, antibiotics won’t cure flu or speed up recovery – prevention is the best defence.”

To ensure no child is left out, take advantage of this opportunity to protect your child against the flu. For more information visit the NHS children’s flu page.
For other groups eligible for a free NHS flu jab – such as people over 65 or individuals with certain medical conditions – appointments are still available through your GP, local pharmacy, or walk-in clinics.
