Lambeth residents celebrate healthy ageing at the Age Well Festival 2024

More than 400 residents from across the borough attended the Age Well Festival at the Oval cricket ground on Saturday 5 October 2024, hosted by Lambeth Council’s  Age Friendly team.

A key priority for Lambeth Together is to improve health and care to our older residents. We’re committed to becoming an age-friendly borough, listening to the concerns of older people, and designing support to meet their needs.

The Lambeth Together Health and Wellbeing Bus attended, gave out 24 Covid and 31 flu vaccines to guests, including Andrew Eyres, Strategic Director, Health and Care, Lambeth Council and SE London ICB, who had his Covid jab on the bus. And our team of friendly health champions spoke with many residents to pass on health advice and information on local support services.

Cllr Windle has blood pressure check

Inside the Oval was a hive of activity.  76 people had their blood pressure checked, including Cllr Windle, Council Cabinet member for Healthier Communities who said: “The event is a huge success, and the turnout is fantastic, which shows how much it means to everyone. I’ve learnt a lot about how you can support yourself, your relatives and residents with how to age well from the teams here today”.

A wide variety of council, NHS and community services  took part in the event. This included Falls Prevention, Active Lambeth, Women and Girls Hubs team, Talking Therapies, Healthier You – Diabetes Prevention, Healthwatch Lambeth, Social Services, Housing, Breast Cancer Screening, Active Travel, among many others.  Performing for guests were the DivaTones choir, Carers4Carers gave seated boxercise classes, there was a tea dance and amazing Caribbean food which was a huge hit with everyone.

Visiting the Falls Prevention stall, local resident Bola Oyedele said: “This is a really well organised and important event for the community. I’m looking forward to visiting all of these exciting stalls”.
