Lambeth GP Food Co-operative launches ‘Seeds for Life’
Lambeth GP Food Co-op has been working in partnership with Lambeth Council to provide seed growing kits to thousands of vulnerable people in the borough, many of which are living with long term health conditions. As gardening activities across most of our sites has ceased, they thought they’d enable people to become actively involved in growing plants from home.
The Seeds for Life packs include a packet of seeds suitable for window-sill growing, such as lettuce or cress, growing instructions and a recipe for people to try out at home. Along with food parcels being distributed by the hardworking team at Lambeth Council, the seed packs are expected to reach up to 4-6,000 people in the borough throughout the Covid-19 crisis from 23 April 2020.
The team would like to thank everyone for the support for the Seeds for Life project, and are incredibly grateful for the generosity of Sutton Seeds for their donation of 3,000 packs of lettuce seeds. They would also like to thank Ian from The Co-op, Charmay from Flavour Fresh for sourcing seeds, and Janet, Kemi, Joel & Maria at Lambeth Council for pulling the seed packs together.
They are currently campaigning via CrowdFunder UK to raise funds to provide more kits to vulnerable people in Lambeth. If you’d like to support the cause, please follow the link www.crowdfunder.co.uk/seeds-for-life
