Strategic Director of Children's Services, Lambeth Council

With over 15 years’ experience at senior management level, Merlin is a highly effective strategic leader within Children’s Services. Her current role is Strategic Director of Children’s Services for Lambeth Council.

Merlin is an exceptionally focused and accomplished professional that has strong knowledge of education, child protection, safeguarding and other Children’s issues on a national and local level.  She has a proven track record in project management methodologies, change management solutions, wholescale service transformation and delivering sustainable budget savings; with a comprehensive understanding of the Ofsted inspection frameworks, including the new Inspections of Local Authority Children’s Services (ILACS).

Merlin has implemented effective working practices within the Children’s Directorate and cross-Directorates. She has a natural ability to lead and work collaboratively with individuals of all levels, which has resulted in significant reductions and savings through single commissioning frameworks across ADCS West London Alliance.

Merlin also has established strong working relationships with colleagues in Adult’s services. Utilising concepts from Children’s preventative agenda to support reablement, minimising escalation to acute services and timely discharges from hospitals, thus reducing financial pressures. She has co-commissioned an LGA peer review of its Adult Services and contributed to the production of the Local Accounts and successfully implemented an ‘All Age Disability Service’ in Hillingdon bringing the concept to a further 2 Local Authorities.
