Christmas is often called “the most wonderful time of the year,” but for many older people, it can be the loneliest. Age UK research shows that 1.5 million older people in the UK are expected to eat Christmas dinner alone, and 670,000 won’t see or speak to anyone at all on Christmas Day.

This World AIDS Day, Monday 1 December, boroughs across south east London are working together to strengthen the HIV response and help end new HIV cases by 2030.
By pooling resources and expertise, Lambeth, Southwark, Lewisham, Bexley and Bromley are taking practical steps to make prevention and care more accessible.

Community groups in south east London can now apply for funding to improve care for Black mothers, birthing people and their babies. Up to £1.5 million is available through multi-year grants of up to three years and the deadline for applications is Saturday 10 January 2026.
